Sushil Garg is the founder, Chairman and CEO of BirchStreet. As a hands-on entrepreneur, over the past 40 years Sushil has founded, run and sold a number of successful software businesses. Throughout his career, he has been regarded as a leader and visionary whose ideas, products and expertise have been on the cutting edge of the software industry. Today, Sushil is fully engaged in guiding BirchStreet forward, while maintaining close relationships with our major customers.
From an early age, Sushil’s innovative ambition led him to develop and grow numerous businesses. In 1982, he founded Pro Computer Sciences (PCS), where he created the PRO IV development language. PRO IV was the first object-oriented, fourth-generation language to bring open architecture and real-time programming to business application development. PCS was sold to a leading technology company in the mid-1980’s. Starting In 1987, Sushil built a successful consulting services firm, GDI, that focused on PRO IV development projects and was ultimately sold to one of the “big four” advertising and marketing services companies in 1999. On the heels of his GDI success, Sushil founded Sagence Systems to convert his J4 language into an application development platform for the newly emerging multi-tenant, cloud-based market, also known as SaaS, focusing on the accounting and supply chain market.
Seeing an opportunity to play a major role in significantly improving the procure-to-pay (P2P) business processes in the hospitality industry, Sushil founded BirchStreet Systems in 2002. As with many of his former ventures, BirchStreet has grown into the global leader for the enterprise application suite used to manage his targeted vertical. His strong entrepreneurial drive, technological insights and customer intimacy are key elements of BirchStreet’s culture and its success.
Steve Markle is the Chief Operating Officer at BirchStreet. Steve brings over 20 years of technology and business leadership. Steve’s responsibilities include direct responsibility for leading and managing BirchStreet’s Customer Success operational units including Project Management, Technical Service, Customer Support, Training, Account Management as well as Product Management.
In addition to Markle’s new role at BirchStreet, he will continue as an Independent Director on the Board of MarginPoint, a leading Inventory Management SaaS company. Prior to BirchStreet, he was Vice President and General Manager, CLM and SRM for Apttus, the category-defining Quote-to-Cash software provider. Markle was founder and CEO of BuildBeam, job management software designed specifically for specialty trade contractors (acquired by DaftLabs). From 2001 until 2013, Steve was an executive at Ariba (acquired by SAP), a pioneer in Sourcing, Procurement and Business Network space where he ultimately served as Vice President of Solutions Management. Markle grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and Southern California ever since earning his BSE in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University.
Doug Sanborn is the Chief Technology Officer at BirchStreet. Doug brings a wealth of technology background, expertise and knowledge to the BirchStreet platform. His focus is to drive to continuously improve the software design and architecture across all BirchStreet’s existing and future applications.
Prior to his role in launching and managing BirchStreet’s technology, Doug had a distinguished career in software application development. First, serving as an Information Technology and Management Consultant for more than seven years with Kenneth Leventhal & Company where his team developed custom applications for the banking and corporate real estate sectors. Doug then launched and advanced Gravity Software, which offered productivity tools for financial professionals. After the sale of Gravity, he led R&D at Epicor Software Corporation for two of the company’s flagship ERP and accounting software products, targeted largely at the hospitality industry. In 2002, he joined Sushil in launching BirchStreet, where he led the creation of the SaaS platform upon which all BirchStreet products are based. Under Doug’s continuing leadership on the technology side of its business, BirchStreet has transitioned from a startup to the rapidly growing, leader in P2P software for the Hospitality industry that it is, today.
Bill Hirsch is the Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing at BirchStreet. Bill brings over 20 years of proven sales and marketing success, specifically in supply chain and procurement for the hospitality industry. At BirchStreet, Bill is responsible for carrying out the company’s global sales strategy and expanding the industry-wide understanding and adoption of procure-to-pay (P2P) software using a SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) model. Bill’s extensive experience in all facets of the hospitality industry provides BirchStreet’s customers with significant insight and guidance in adopting the best process practices for their operations.
Bill has successfully developed and led the sales, marketing and business strategy for eProcurement companies in the hotel and multi-family industry since 1996. His background includes multi-unit hotel operations as well as strategic planning, sales and marketing at Choice Hotels International and Wyndham Hotels. Bill moved to the supply side of the hotel industry in 2000, where he led the significant expansion in sales at HD Supply (then a subsidiary of Home Depot), as the Director of the Lodging Industry. Prior to joining BirchStreet, Bill held senior management positions at BuyEfficient, a group purchasing organization (GPO) and supply chain management company servicing the Hospitality industry. Since his arrival at the Company in 2011, BirchStreet has significantly widened its lead in P2P for the hospitality industry and has successfully penetrated other industry verticals such as healthcare, restaurants and country clubs.
Anshul Garg is the Vice President of Development at BirchStreet. In this role, Anshul manages the global development process for all new and existing BirchStreet products. Anshul and his team are the backbone of each client marketplace developed on BirchStreet’s platform and are responsible for all aspects of software development; from design and documentation of enhancements and new applications through quality assurance and testing. Anshul and his team are emblematic of the BirchStreet culture which strives every day to deliver the best solutions and services to our customers.
Anshul brings over 18 years of software development expertise to the BirchStreet Development team. Moreover, his background in having played numerous roles at the Company has grown over the years, giving him deep insight into all aspects of the business. Prior to joining BirchStreet at its founding in 2002, Anshul served as a software developer for two of the Company’s predecessor businesses, Sagence Systems and GDI Software. Having been an integral part of BirchStreet from the beginning, Anshul’s experience and dedication have made a major contribution to the creation of the technology platform that is the cornerstone of BirchStreet’s success, today.
Tony Ross is the Vice President of Sales & Marketing, North America focusing on building the Hospitality, Gaming, Casinos, Food Service Management and Restaurants at BirchStreet. He is responsible for strategic oversight and growth into the gaming and casino industry along with tapping into other targeted industries. His deep product and service knowledge of procure-to-pay solutions gives him a solid foundation to expand new business units for BirchStreet.
Tony is a respected executive with a distinguished career leading sales operations for successful software companies within the hospitality and gaming arena with over 20 years of experience. He previously worked at Agilysys, where he served as Vice President of Global Sales and led the company through several years of tremendous growth. Tony worked up through the ranks at Agilysys, where he built sales strategies and methodologies, grew the sales organization and improved the execution of software and application sales in many hospitality verticals.
Jon Castillo is BirchStreet’s Vice President of Technical Services. In his role, Jon oversees the Technical Services team that manages the configurations, interfaces, supplier services, project management and technical support for BirchStreet. During Jon’s tenure at BirchStreet, he has been immersed himself in all aspects of the technical work required to on-board the Company’s customers and support their technical requirements over the long-term. Over the past five years, he has been an essential, hands-on player in every department responsible for servicing the technical needs of BirchStreet’s customers and their suppliers; Customer Support, Supplier Adoption, Project Management, Development & Implementation and Integrations.
Before taking on his current management position, Jon was the Project Manager for many of the company’s high profile customers. That experience has given Jon deep insight into the all facets of BirchStreet’s technology. Moreover, it has provided him with an innate understanding of customer value and best practices in procure-to-pay (P2P) processes. Prior to joining BirchStreet, he provided technical support in the telecommunications industry.
Kim Huff is the Director of Product Management at BirchStreet. She is responsible for not only managing the standard BirchStreet products, but also understanding the functionality and technical needs of our valued customer base. This information, paired with industry knowledge, helps guide the future direction of BirchStreet products and features.
In addition, Kim also oversees our Global Training Team. Her responsibilities include ensuring that training and onsite implementation services are provided worldwide with excellence, and the onsite service delivery programs are continually evolving to account for a growing globally diverse and multi-lingual customer base. Over the past 9 years at BirchStreet, Kim as expanded her depth of experience in almost every department at BirchStreet. As the company continued to grow, Kim moved into organizational development, founding BirchStreet’s highly regarded Global Training team and program and implemented the Customer Support email queue and help desk ticket tracking. Most recently as Client Services Director, she facilitated process training and standardization of the Global Project Management Group while simultaneously initiating several high-profile customer deployments.
Kim has over 15 years of IT experience within the healthcare and hospitality industries. Prior to joining BirchStreet, among many other projects, she successfully managed the Boyd Gaming Corporate Project Plan for the Stardust Resort & Casino Deconstruction and Corporate Relocation. With her deep experience and tireless dedication to customer service, Kim has been a key player in BirchStreet’s growth and continuous drive for customer satisfaction and product implementation success.
Thron Havens is the Director of Information Technology at BirchStreet. He is responsible for all customer facing systems and networks infrastructure. Thron’s group is primarily responsible for maintaining the reliability of the Company’s network which provides 24/7 enterprise-wide access to the mission critical applications provided by BirchStreet to its global customers.
Since joining BirchStreet in 2012, Thron has focused on improving the customer’s experience by implementing several new technologies as well as overseeing a full infrastructure upgrade of BirchStreet’s development and production environment. Under Thron’s leadership, the BirchStreet IT organization is continuously improving the strength and reliability of its services and incorporating new technologies to help BirchStreet maintain its leadership in procure-to-pay (P2P) for the Hospitality industry.
Thron brings over 15 years of expertise in the IT field with extensive experience growing networks from the ground up. Prior to BirchStreet, Thron spent 11 years expanding and maintaining the enterprise network needs at Minka Lighting, one of the world’s leading Decorative Lighting Manufacturers. His responsibilities included the enterprise-wide network environment which interconnected 5 remote facilities, globally.
